hello i'm new to linux.
can i run Solus on this old pc. if can which DE should i choose? or can you recommend me a other distro.

G31 Motherboard
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz

The best way to find out is to try it. Maybe start with the "live" .ISO file, and if that seems usable, go ahead and install it. The MATE DE is usually recommended as the best one for computers with limited performance.

No, I can't recommend a distro other than Solus. I'd have to lie.

linuxnewbie i3-wm very lightweight but i cannot recommend it to you because you said you are new to Linux and using i3-wm requires some knowledge(but you can just simply try it if you want to).

linuxnewbie If you got some decent GPU you can go with Budgie. If it's something very old like Intel GMA the Mate edition will be better. 4GB of RAM is just enough for most Linux OSs.

Yes you can.
If you want more modern-ish looking desktop, then I would go for Budgie.
I have one older pc that I don't use that much, it has a bit better CPU than yours and 8gb of ddr2, and budgie runs like a charm.

Budgie, Plasma, and Mate should run. Mate would give you the least resource issues.
