Attempting a fresh install from Solus 4 live-USB.
Installation support page (https://getsol.us/articles/installation/disks/en/)
suggests that it is possible to install next to an existing OS.
Installer tells me the only options are to wipe the entire harddrive or to define mountpoints that are made before running the installer.
Following guidelines I used gparted to make the following
- 512MB partition with labels 'boot' and 'esp'
- 16GB swap partition (maybe overkill?)
- 500GB ext4 for the Solus install
- 250GB original windows 10 ntfs partition
- and then two ntfs recovery partitions that came with the laptop.
In the installer I define the 500gb part as /
the swap as swap.
and there is no option to set the boot partition. Is this correct?
Next page is "Configure the bootloader & hostname"
I can check "install a bootloader"
but the drop down only displays the USB stick i'm running from.
If i continue without a bootloader i'll get the error message Failed install: GRUB not configured.
Is there something i'm missing which is easier than learning to configure a bootloader manually?
I'd rather not destroy the recovery partitions because i might want to put win 10 back on later for resale.
Thank you!
