Splitgate launching issues

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has been able to run Splitgate. I keep getting this issue

"An error occured while updating Splitgate (missing executable) : ... Steam/steamapps/common/Splitgate/PortalWars.sh"

Steam keeps downloading the windows version of this game, this is why the PortalWars.sh file doesn't exist due to it being in the linux version.

How can I force Steam to download the linux version?

What I've tried:

Uninstalling game
Deleting download cache
Turning off steamplay
Restart steam with steam --reset command

PS: I've downloaded Splitgate in the past with proton so that could be a factor not sure.

TeenCorn When you enter the Properties of that game, is the option Compatibility -> "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" checked?

have you verified the integrity of the game files?
maybe you can try removing the game from your steam library and the adding it again. you should probably report it to splitgate devs too.

moreover,the game natively supports Linux,so why use proton?

JoshStrobl Unfortunately didn't work still download appid 677621 which is the windows version of the game.

I have it installed natively on Solus and haven't had any issues with them serving me the Windows version. You could try removing the game from your licenses, restarting Steam, then going back to the Splitgate page and installing it again.

Go to your account details via your user menu in the top right of Steam.
In the first section "Store & Purchase History", on the right hand side there is a "View licenses and product key activations"
After clicking it, click the "Remove" link on the Splitgate row.

Turns out I had to turn on Steam Play feature and force Splitgate to use Steam Linux Runtime in the compatibility settings.
