A quick glance at that model shows that it may also have an HDMI and/or DisplayPort connector next to the VGA port. Either of those can work with an inexpensive passive cable/dongle to connect to the HDMI on your TV because they are digital and support the same protocol.
VGA is an analog interface and needs to be converted to digital before it can be used with HDMI. HDMI/DisplayPort to VGA is accomplished with relatively cheap "active" adapters because going from digital to analog doesn't require complicated circuitry. The reverse is not true: going from analog to digital requires (relatively) expensive converters. These are usually external boxes that even need their own power supply.

The higher the resolution of the TV, the more expensive these converters become and the less likely it is that the VGA port can even drive it. Most VGA hardware can't go above 1080i or 1080p.
