As the creator of budgie-trash-applet, I am curious about what can be improved with the applet. It's a pretty simple applet; it shows you items in your trash bin(s) and allows you to delete or restore them from your Budgie panel without having to open a file manager.

If you use it or try it out, what, if anything, might make it more useful? Could the design be improved? Something else I didn't think of?

Of course, any possible bugs should be filed on the issue tracker, but I invite you to put any other ideas either here, or on the issue tracker.

Thank you for any input you might have!

If this is the applet in budgie settings called 'Trash Bin' I would probably install it on task bar if it 1) stacked trash contents by date (it looks like it might) and 2) gave me the file size of each deleted item.
(I LOVE what you have going with the path and deleted time and file extensions. edit: the individual delete and batch delete is great too.)

brent You can change the sorting mode to be by date, yes. Showing the file size is a good idea... writes down

      Thanks! 🙂

Just installed and tried it for the first time, my suggestions would be:

      • An option to disable the NO/YES dialog when permanently deleting files (both for single file and clear all), they just removed this option in Nautilus, which i really dislike...
      • Have one "Clear All" button in the same line as "Settings", the same way it is done with the sound volume change applet. Then you only need one button/icon for it, and it's faster to reach, but you will loose the ability to empty only one drives trash, while keeping another drives trash files i guess...
      • Or the ability to rightclick on the tray icon to empty trash, it may be best to have an option to turn it on or off, as some may dislike that option. I like things to be fast and efficient, with the minimum amount of mouse clicks.
      • If possible make the tray icon show when there is something in the Trash.

Just my 2 cents, other than that i really like the app, thanks for making the applet @EbonJaeger, nice job.

algent Fixed! Thanks for that xD

        • I'm pretty leery about having the ability for someone to perform a destructive action without some sort of confirmation.
        • I suppose adding clear/restore all buttons would be possible, though for most people they might not be necessary if they don't have other drives attached. Additional thoughts on this from other people are welcome.
        • I'm not sure if this is doable because of how popovers and Budgie work. @JoshStrobl can an applet have a different popover for left/right click? I guess it could be faked with pages, but that might look janky.
        • That is definitely something I want to do. I have an idea of how to do it now 😃

        Thanks for the responses!

I installed this after the thread started and I really like it. Still think file/folder size matters when deciding what to trash and when, though. For a person like me that's a factor to purge but I know not everyone is the same. Wanted to give it a spin a few days to see if I still felt the same way as before I used it. Love the settings options.

brent The file info thinger when you click on an item will show the size in the next release. I don't know when that will be, yet, because I'm not sure yet if there's more I want to do beforehand xD

            Thanks for the feedback! 😃

Rebooted. I really like the additions especially the sizes display of files. I must imagine that trash is not a trash can for many of us but a place where we keep stuff that we might change our mind about. 1GB+ downloads we didn't really need really add up in that trashcan. Even a modest housecleaning of pictures/folders might take up multiple GBs.
