Can't get bluetooth to work.

My computer is fitted with a broadcom BCM43142 wifi card. Wifi works fine but I cannot get bluetooth to do the same! While there are some references to this online I cannot find anything that works.

geekazoid I cannot get bluetooth to do the same!

Do you happen to be running a Plasma DE? I am, and recently my bluetooth stopped working. My earbuds, which I've used successfully for a long time have stopped pairing with my laptop's BT. It goes through all the pairing motions, but then disconnects at the very end. I reported that here a few days ago.

EDIT: I use my earbuds only occasionally, when my wife is watching TV and I want to listen to something else. Thus, I can't blame this on a particular upgrade. Only that it's been sometime fairly recent.

WetGeek I am running Budgie. When I go into bluetooth settings while it appears to be searching, it doesn't see any devices. I have used Linux for many years but only moved to Solus very recently.

That's a bit different than my experience with Plasma. My earbuds show up and when I try to pair them, everything seems to work, but as I said, at the very end they disconnect. Maybe it's the same root cause, but with different symptoms on Budgie vs. Plasma?

Nobody else answered my message about the bluetooth problem, so it's either a rare issue, or there aren't that many folks pairing BT with Plasma.

Yeah, I'm a software engineer (retired) and it has me beat, too. No worries, though. We can probably both get through this until it's fixed.

Thanks for the tip, but my bluetooth is Intel, not Broadcom. I hope you have better luck with "they" and your posts!

EDIT: Required tool hciconfig not installed. The only clue I have. I'm going to look for it on the repo.

That is a deprecated command from bluez so you will not find it on Solus. Found this issue on github and this guys suggest to add --enable-deprecated flag on bluez packaging script to get the commands back.

It's possible to re-add a bunch of those commands with the --enable-deprecated flag, but many of the commands added back are very broken right now and it's probably better to not enable them if many of them are not working (and are unlikely to be fixed being deprecated and all)

@WetGeek Are you fully updated? There was an important fix in the bluez package that would have been part of the sync a couple of weeks ago.

Yes. I start the updates withing 10 minutes of finding that they've been released. Always.

I'm pretty sure that hciconfig is just a tool to identify the bluetooth module that's installed on a device. As such, and especially if it's been deprecated, it's not of much interest to me. But I'll be very pleased if it turns out that I can use my earbuds again after another update or two.

EDIT: That "important fix" in the bluez package was what probably broke it for me. The timing is about right.
Hoping for a quick fix.

WetGeek download the package and run over terminal sudo eopkg it bluez-5.60-34.... inside the download folder.

this is an update of the one we have inside the repo , don't have any bluetooth stuff to test and maybe it fixes for you

WetGeek If the downloaded file is in Downloads folder, then enter to Downloads folder:
cd Downloads then sudo eopkg it bluez pres TAB key to autocomplete the rest of the file name, it should be like:sudo eopkg it bluez-5.60-34-1-x86_64.eopkg then pres ENTER to install.

cd /Downloads

your path should switch from your homedir to homedir/downloads

inside of it run the command above again
