Sound card issues (XPS-13 9310)

Had this laptop for a while, for the most part solus works flawlessly, only thing missing was the microphone stopped working. Updated solus today and all sound stopped working.

The sound card was not recognized by the system, so the only option was dummy output. Searching online I found a similar problem in the arch linux forms, here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=260139

Manually installing sof from https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin did the trick after reboot - Microphone works and everything.

nprecup Thanks for this, this is the same problem I have been facing in my machine. However, I couldn't make instructions work. Would you be able to report how you did it?

nprecup Glad to hear installing sof firmware resolved your issue. There's already a pending PR for including it in repos. https://dev.getsol.us/D10544

I haven't got mail about the changes requested, I will fix it asap when I have time.

That's too bad. I did not follow the process described in the arch linux post, but just installed the latest version of the sof-bin firmware, as described on their readme (clone the git repository, enter the downloaded directory, execute "sudo ./install.sh v1.7.x/v1.7"). Then reboot. Luckily it works for me, and I see on your support post that they are planning to include it in the future (https://dev.getsol.us/D10544), which is great.

nprecup Actually, thank you! Your link actually sent me the correct direction. In my case what was necessary to work was to install the release candidate, instead of the stable binaries. Finally, I got it working!
