1. I did it last night, but today I cannot for the life of me find out how to shut down Solus in the GUI. The only place I can see is the power on/off button in Raven (?) but the only option there is to log out. I cannot see an App to add into the Panel which will give me the shutdown (or suspend) option.

  2. How to access Pulse Audio – it just works in Gnome but although installed - with the Equalizer which greatly improves sound quality on my Lenovo laptop - I cannot find it anywhere in the Gui interface.

  3. Is there a basic page listing out how to operate commands in Terminal like:
Install, Remove, run a program, check if one is installed and/or get a list of applications? Although on computers since the 80's, am a Gui-first user and still don't know my way around Terminal.

  4. I would appreciate better instructions for how to install Timeshift. The ones on the forum didn't do it for me. I need this so that if my main system (Manjaro Gnome) crashes or I can't boot into it after experimenting with a different distro, I can use this installation of Solus to run Timeshift to restore it all back to working order.

  5. Is there a script - like in Arch - to re-make the boot instructions. At some point (another reason need Timeshift!) I would like to have a bona fide dual boot with two different SSD's and ideally in EFI mode. I think right now Solus is EFI (righ?) but the Manjaro is Legacy. In order to boot into one or the other, have to hit F12 and then select the drive to boot from. Works fine, no problem, but at some point would like to see if can penetrate into all that arcane booting business which has always baffled me.

Finally, I like Solus very much and suspect it will become the new Daily Driver, even though the Manjaro is excellent. Although everything is working well, am a little tired of Gnome - there's a lot of hopping around of windows etc. and also I find the Settings-Tweaks-Extensions business tedious, even though once set up I rarely have to visit. I also was trying to install a simple backup system on a new SSD (previous one got fried by spilled cup of tea) but ran into endless Arch installation issues because pamac has been down. Someone recommended Solus and I really like it, though am disappointed that the widely used Timeshift is not available and as far as I can tell not in snap or flatpak either (neither of which I know how to use outside a GUI software updater like pamac).

    1. If you are using Solus Budgie, there should be a "power button" on the panel in the bottom right, near the clock. Clicking that will give you the option to do whatever you wish to do. In Plasma, I believe it's in the Start Menu. I'm not sure about GNOME or MATE.
    1. You can do that via the Software Center, though some people recommend updating packages via the command line since the underlying stuff in use doesn't handle certain conditions gracefully. This Help Center article will show you all you might want to know about package management via the command line: https://getsol.us/articles/package-management/basics/en/

I'm afraid I don't know the answers to your other questions. I'm sure someone will come along and help, though! 🙂

BaronAsh I'll try to answer some of the questions

      1. If you're on Budgie, you can add the shutdown/reboot/log out button to the panel through Budgie Desktop Settings > Panel > Applets
      2. Check out the help center for basics to package management through the CLI
      3. You can try out rEFInd boot manager. It's not a boot loader, but a boot manager for all your installed operating systems

EbonJaeger What I found after posting is that I have to use the Power button, and then there is a prompt asking if I really want to shutdown. The GUI button only offers to log out, nothing else. I find that a little strange, but it's fine. To suspend, I will have to go into Terminal since that option is not in the Gui. Again, a little strange but workable.

        Sorry... Budgie. Installed yesterday.

BaronAsh, I don't know what's happening, AFAIR the power button widget should be on the default panel after initial installation, and give the choices you'd expect.

If it's not there, right click on Budgie Desktop, and select Budgie Desktop Settings.
Here you should be able to add the power button widget to your panel, it's called User Indicator.
If it's there already but not functioning properly, try removing it, and then re-adding it.

Otherwise, you can reset the panel to defaults, with this command at the terminal:
        dconf reset -f /com/solus-project/budgie-panel/
and then Ctrl+D to exit the terminal. This method will lose any custom settings you've made to the panel.
        Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks. That was it. I just assumed - wrongly - that 'User Indicator' was for choosing different users to change DE's or whatever. Clearly wrong. A strange title, but anyway. All's well. Thanks again.
