Unable to add icon task list applet to task bar

When I add the icon task list applet to a panel Budgie crashes and restarts. Adding other applets works and I checked for broken packages/updated already. Any ideas to help troubleshoot? It's not a huge deal as I can use the old fashioned task list but it would be nice to fix it.

You are working in Budgie Desktop Settings/Applets dialogue box, yes?
Do you have one or two taskbars?

brent The taskbar disappears and reappears. It looks like budgie is restarting.

Initially I was adding a second taskbar to make a dock, but I went back to one and tried to add an icon task list to it with the same behavior.

Unfortunately the fixes there have not worked for me.

I added and removed a couple applets and I was ok. If sudo eopkg check came out clean I wonder if it could be a service that stopped?
Manually adding an applet like Caffeine, for instance, causes your bar to flicker, die, and re-appear. Outside a package or a service, I got nothing.
(Your second problem and that thread you furnished might be unrelated, but you are on to something with a 'reset' of your settings.)
Hang in there, you'll get more opinions.

brent Well the lock screen seems to be working after a restart, not sure which troubleshooting step fixed it though.

The icon list is still making the panel quit and restart.

I was able to get the icon list back by doing budgie-panel --reset --replace & (Source: https://getsol.us/articles/budgie/restoring-panel-defaults/en/)

However when I try to add the icon task list applet to a new panel (in order to create a dock), both panels disappear like before.

When running budgie-panel --replace & I get an error message:

** Message: 10:55:39.822: libsession.vala:45: DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID not set, session registration may be broken (not running budgie-desktop?)

Not sure if it is related to the issue or not.

Dang. Budgie task bar still crashes and burns when adding applets.
You already have a top bar? You are attempting to add applets to a bottom bar? Is that what you mean by 'dock.'? Or are is taskbar and dock interchangeable?

seems to be known issue @ ubu: https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/budgie-panel-keeps-crashing/324/17 and https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/gsettings-change-budgie-panel-question/3362/14 which is interesting and maybe have clues in them: they are similar to what you are going through

I typed the end of the error message into DDG but didn't get much.

In the meantime, to clarify: Adding and removing other applets works normally, however when I try to add the "Icon Task List" applet the panel blinks off the screen and then comes back in the same way it does when running budgie-panel --replace. This makes me think that it is segfaulting or crashing for some reason when I try to add the Icon Task List applet.

The error message it give is: (budgie-panel:11994): Gtk-WARNING **: 12:58:52.982: for_size smaller than min-size (34 < 36) while measuring gadget (node box, owner BudgieHeaderWidget)

Those are all warnings and not relevant to the issue. You also already have an IconTasklist on that panel, it's in the center. That said, could be a bug with how we're doing positioning / instancing of it. I'd like to note the warning you go isn't relevant, but you are welcome to follow https://github.com/solus-project/budgie-desktop/wiki/Providing-Backtraces and file an issue on the Budgie Desktop issue tracker 🙂

JoshStrobl Thanks. I realize the icon task list was there, but if I got rid of it I didn't feel like resetting the panel to default again (that was the only way I was able to get it back before).

Thanks for the info, will take a look/investigate some more to make sure it's not just a problem with my config or something.
