Incron (alternatives?)

I wonder if there's an alternative / substitute for incron. Found it extremely useful for automated tasks.
It's never mentioned in Phabricator (also, it's one of the well aged pieces of software which possibly would be ignored by the devs) so maybe I overlooked something...
