Unable to install Solus

Hello there,
As the forum title suggests, I cannot for whatever reason install Solus. I created a bootable flash drive through Rufus with the latest iso from the site, it'll load into a GUI with "Solus 4.0 (Budgie)" or "Reboot Into Firmware Interface". I clicked "Solus 4.0...), it'll fail to start and load Kernel Modules then just after loads of checks which relay "OK", it'll just return to a black screen with a blinking line and stay there.
In fact, I tried installing a different distro with a similar result. I don't see anything I'm doing wrong as I've done this before with Fedora. I watched a guide on youtube and I still ended up with the same result. A couple hours before trying to install Solus, I was using Windows 10 without an issue so I don't think there are any physical issues.

If you have any ideas, that would be great.

skullcrusherhm Run Solus live, drop to the command line, run the following:

inxi -F

Take a picture with a phone, tablet, etc., re-create in a text editor and copy and paste the text, sans sensitive info like serial nos and mac addresses, here. You may get more specific help if we know what hardware you have.

There are programs for Windows that provide hardware info, but inxi provides very concise output.

You probably have to add some kernel parameter depending on the hardware you have.

kyrios Before the previous installation of windows like I mentioned, I had the distro fedora working just fine. When Solus didn't work, I tried installing fedora once again with a similar outcome to Solus. I don't think I would need to?

skullcrusherhm Fedora may run a different version of the kernel, may not load the same kernel modules, may have different kernel options...
If you get a black screen with a blinking cursor, you can most likely swith to a console with CTRL-ALT-F2 to get a login prompt.

I've had similar problems. Solus just doesn't like me. I have a very modern compuater, but still no bueno.

I try to install it, even booting form the flash drive gives an error stating failure to load kernel modules. Then no matter which hard drive I install it from, it either can't find EFI, can't create it, failed to find enough space, or whatever. This includes trying to place the bootloader in the same drive that windows is inserted on and trying to install everything on completely empty drives. I have 6 installed, so there is more than enough empty hard drives to choose from.

If that process goes though then in the process of installing it then will fail midway. Or if it installs, then in the process of unmounting, it then will fail. randomly one time the install process was fully successful, i then updated software, and tried installing nvidia drivers and that broke it. So back to reformat and re-install. in that whole process, I would reformat the windows drive as well, tried increasing the size of the efi section of the windows drive, nothing. everytime i reinstall windows, never an issue. I then switched to Manjaro.. no issues, it installs fine.

I still would like to try Solus, but something keeps messing up my install (oh an I forget to mention, i did get that blinking line as well). I'm not in the mood of reformating the windows or manjaro drive, but would be willing to try it on a third.

[unknown] I thought they treated you with respect and a lot of good advice on your thread. I thought Emeperor's was a great workaround aside from tried and true. We all been there, kid. Trial and error.

Yet another installation error.

"Installation has failed, and changes were made to disk The installer will now exit. [ Errno 5] Input/output error.

Literally this is like the 10th time in the past week I've tried installing solus, on 4 different Hard disk/SSD. The folks in charge of Solus needs to go back in the drawing board when it comes to setting up an installer. You are literally never going to get much exposure if people can't install your software.

powerincarnate 10 Drives? Wow. What procedure did you follow, right from the burning of the ISO? Need to backtrack to the beginning perhaps.... :-)

Well, I've installed Solus (budgie and kde) several times (in vboxes and in "real" hardware) and have had no issues.
That doesn't mean you don't have issues...but it does mean that the installation does work.
Whether that is user error, configuration error of some kind, or simply due to the nature of PC hardware (with all kinds of variations).

I burned my iso (where I burned) with gnome-multi-writer (obviously on virtual boxes, I just use the ISO as a cd). And did the install. I can't say exactly what I did, because I don't make notes..I've done this enough that it all makes sense.
One of the most common errors is where the bootloader is installed. Another is the size of the EFI partition. But you can browse forum messages and see that for yourself (along with other issues). We really need to sticky some of these common problems in one message.
That being said, last week I installed Mint to see what i thought of it and somehow (cough) managed to install it's bootloader on a different disk. Since Mint is likely only temporarily there, I'll live with it for now. In my defense that was my first time to use their installer on real hardware. And I'm sure I missed something by just trying to do it at breakneck speed (was close to bedtime).

Strange. I don't recall messing around with a bootloader or EFI partition when I installed Solus. It was very straightforward. I installed using the whole disk. My NUC is strictly an UEFI machine.

Hmm, if you have a single disk and use the whole disk (never done that) that probably assumes you want the bootloader on that disk.
One thing you might try is manually installing (even if you do use whole disk just walk through those steps).

I only used solus' help section.
Download ISO (did that 5 different times in 12 installs).
-burn to disk using rufus. make sure GPT, FAT 32, DD, UEFI. restart, make sure usb key is first boot. load solus, (can't load kernel) but still loads. I'm actually typing this on the booted USB stick.

created 512 mb efi partitioned hard drived. Also have used Windows and Manjaro's EFI partioned for the boot loader. Tried installing along side windows, tried installing along side manjaro, tried installing on 3 different completely formated hard drives/SSDs. many different errors but the most consistent is, everything loads, and when it comes time to unmount, I get the error that I listed about. rinse repeat. a few times it was couldn't find EFI, or EFI was too small, but like I said, I've installed it on completely empty hard drives and allowed solus to create the EFI, and I also created it myself to no avail.

I have Core I9 7900x, 2 NVME, 2 SSD, 2 Hard disk including one WD raptor, 64 gb Ram, Geforce 1080TI. I've last bought a computer in 2000, always have been building and rebuilding computers since, but only windows. Recently, I've dabbled into linux. As I mentioned, I currently am using Manjaro, which other than an issue with getting my wireless card to play nice, it worked just fine. I really wanted to give Solus a try, but can't get pass the install. Only once did it install, but it then locked up when I tried updating my nvidia drivers.

At this point, I might just decide to go the route of Manaro Budgie, or Ubuntu Budgie to experience the Budgie desktop.

When I installed Solus, it was to use it as my single daily driver. No dual booting, and one single SSD. Don't have interest to make my life complicated.... :-)
