Did some experiments. Long story short: All a failure; resulting in crash.
I have some pdfs I really want to read but they are prone to crashing when you breathe on them (see this thread).
So tried printing incrementally (eg, pages 1-20 for ex.) to .ps or .svg.
Rationale: combine/convert smaller documents somehow later.
Different quantities, page settings, variations: all failed and crash.
How/why could this bug effect print dialogue functions? Answer: 'cause you are breathing on it still.
Will uninstall Evince.
Since it's a native package does removal effect anything?
Can anyone vouch for Okular?
edit: the weird thing about this bug is the LACK of uniformity or consistencty. Some documents are bug-free open after open. Specific ones are always doomed. It has nothing to do with size or newness or anything else.
Could some documents be rigged to implode when you get them and it's no bug at all? Makes me think something in Evince is incompatible with certain settings (advanced settings tab-type stuff?) the pdf-maker may have used in the document's creation. Imagination too fertile today obviously🙂
