ender Is it intended that the libavif package doesn't include this binary? If so, why is it so and would you point me in the right direction to get it working? thx in advance
Staudey It seems on purpose, but I don't know the reason behind it. See the initial inclusion with this paragraph: "Test Plan: Converted a JPEG to AVIF using avifenc (not included in the final package)."
livingsilver94 It wasn't included because libavif was added to satisfy a kimageformats dependency. If the binary is going to be used by users for real, I have no problem including it. My original thought was that there are already generic converters in the repository.
ender livingsilver94 thx for taking time to answer! Since then, I've build it myself and I'm quite disappointed by the results. Maybe there's some tweaking needed with the settings, bc the squoosh cli is definitely giving better results but still, I won't be using it atm.
livingsilver94 ender FWIW, the only encoder I enabled is rav1e, which is notoriously slower than AOM, but gives no artifacts in dark areas. If you want, try to rebuild libavif by replacing rav1e with AOM and check the encoding time.
ender livingsilver94 the encoding time was okish, but the gain in compression size wasn't really worth the time I spent on it
JoshStrobl @livingsilver94 Pinging you per your request. Something something sorry for the noise everyone.
