My First Gif--How to make it happen with Solus repo software?

How do I make one in Linux with Solus? I don't know how.

[One hour of search engine: nada. The closest I got was linux instructions for making a gif with ffmpeg AND imagemagick. Overkill. I don't have another hour to spare.
Note: I swear to deity-of-your-choice that search engines are getting worse because I don't feel dumber yet. I found a forum search where Josh advised someone to do it all in ffmpeg but that person's media/circumstances far different than mine].

Quite simply I used Handbrake to snip a 10 second excerpt from a longer (tv show) in mp4 format.

How do I convert this 10 second mp4 into a nice normal gif fuzztone with captions?
Nothing more, nothing less.
Thanks for any kick in the right direction.

I use Blender (https://www.blender.org/) to make gifs, but I don't think it would be as easy as converting the 10 second vid without some hand holding. Also, I use it for making gifs from artwork I've made, but I think you can import video and make a gif from it. Also, Kdenlive (https://kdenlive.org/en/) should work to make a gif.

With a little duckduck-foo, I found this website: https://makeagif.com/ which boasts being able to make a gif from a video file (like the 10 second cut you were mentioning).

that's a start--both in repo--don't need the hand-holding, this is good enough. Committed to DIY so I won't have it converted by a third party online. I have a feeling if I succeed, I might like it. Thank you.

No need for extra deps at all. It is an AppImage. Just download gifcurry-6.0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage file and give executable permissions.

algent I used it straight from the appimage, but not every field worked for me and the delicate art of stacking a quote for each frame range did not go well either. That was last night. Will play some more. Or, uhm, ehh, I don't know, maybe, ahhh, read their 'read me' and, um, other documentation for a change....🙂

Solarmass You're too kind! I do not have a YouTube channel, but this Youtube video gave me the info I needed to make gifs in Blender (using the Bligify addon).
