Hi,
I'm trying out Solus for the first time today, and I've got to say the first impression is very good. It looks absolutely beautiful!
I however have had two issues, which I'm a little concerned about.
First off, I'm using the KDE version, so I'm unsure if these issues are with KDE or with Solus - that said, I've never experienced these specific issues on neither KDE Neon nor MX Linux with KDE Plasma.
Issue 1:
While inputting my WiFi password, the list of WiFi networks rearranged themselves based on signal strength - however the password field stayed where it was. The first time I tried logging in to my own network, I ended up sending my WiFi password to my neighbors router. I know the guy, and I'm not concerned about the security in this instance, but I do feel this could cause unfortunate consequences for other users. Once I noticed the issue, it was also quite the challenge to type in the password, and then wait for my SSID to jump into the right box before I could connect.
Once the SSID landed on the box with my password typed in - connection itself was no issue.
The second issue:
I live in Norway, and we are fairly bi-lingual - seeing as Norwegian is a somewhat useless language in the big picture, with only about 5 million speakers, it doesn't get us very far in the world at large. I use a Norwegian keyboard, and I prefer Norwegian date and style - i.e. 24 hour clock, and weeks starts on Monday. But by setting these two settings - Norwegian keyboard layout and Norwegian Formats - leaving the language of the system at US English - most of my OS turned Norwegian. I find Norwegian extremely uncomfortable for computer/tech usage, and I can't find anything as I've been using English operating systems all of my life.
I also strongly feel System Language should overwrite both keyboard layout and system formats for System Language.
To be quite honest these are the types of issues that forced me away from Windows in the first place.
I managed to fix it in the end by setting the System Language to British English, which is perfectly fine, but then I had to delete and re add the Norwegian keyboard layout, to be able to use Norwegian characters such as æ ø å and get the "normal" location of symbols such as @ - etc.
I've mostly fixed my issues this time around, but I feel both are candidates for a look by someone competent. I'd be happy to provide more data if required.
Brand new install on a Dell Latitude 7440 i7-4660U CPU, 16 Gig memory, Intel HD Graphics 4400.
KDE Plasma version 5.21.3 64 bit
Solus 4.2
Thanks!
