Hello copy pasting this from the mint forums
Hello everybody not sorry to keep introductions short, I've been fighting this issue for a week (at least), I have this computer with 16+ tbs of space and every time I try to copy paste something from one of my external drives to it, it would freeze so violently nothing short of a hard reset would fix it ie the mouse doesn't work the keyboard doesn't respond, nothing (well most of the time, others it would stop copying files but I could still move the mouse and use the keyboard, but even if I killed the nemo process or the terminal (which said closing the terminal would kill the process, it didn't) it wouldn't work when I tried to do it again and when I tried to reboot the proper way it would tell me it was still trying to complete the copying processes if I went ahead with the restarting I would hang at the Linux Mint logo screen resulting in having to press the reset button anyways, I know this last part is convoluted but the bottom line is that nothing short of reset works)
This happens either when I use the file manager (I believe Nemo) or the terminal and this can happen whether the file/directory is over 100gigs or smaller than 1gig, sometimes at the start of the file transfer, sometimes near the end and sometimes just after I rebooted the system
I thought at first this could be a problem with MInt Mate but the same thing happened with Cinnamon so I also tried Debian, Trisquel, Solus and went back to Mint because if it's gonna keep happening no matter the distro at least Mint is the most aesthetically pleasing of the lot
So after I reboot I try again, right? And sometimes it goes through and sometimes it doesn't and takes many tries but I am worried about the disk health (and talking about disk health, the filesystem check says all internal and external drives are undamaged) and I'm really worried about the file health so to speak, I am scared the day after tomorrow when I try to acess one of them it says it's corrupted or unreadable or something

Linux Mint 20.1 "Ulyssa" - Cinnamon (64-bit)
specs
kernel: 5.4.0-58-generic x86_64
gigabyte b450m ds3h v2 uefi legacy
quad core amd ryzen 3 3200g radeon vega graphics

This is straight out of the box btw, only thing I have changed was turning the night mode and the folder color, I haven't downloaded anything or upgraded anything this computer is not even connected to the internet (and I wish it keep being so)
The externals all have a few years but the computer is new and I had no problems copying these exact same files from my "gaming" computer that uses win10 to these externals
I am at my wits and I feel like each freeze is taking a bit of my sanity away lastly I don't be fooled by my nickname I am not the master of Solus
