For future reference, seeing as how you're using unstable, If you want to continue using it, you need to join the IRC and always look at the #Solus-dev channel's topic before performing an upgrade.
There's always a warning when you're not supposed to upgrade on unstable. The same goes for installing packages during such a time - a package installation might pull in a partial upgrade, and result in a system that doesn't boot to GUI.

Also, remember to reboot after performing a system upgrade - if some crucial stuff was updated, you might encounter some issues if you don't reboot.
Also, rebooting after a full system upgrade makes it easier for you later to figure a point in history where the system worked correctly.
If you hardly ever reboot, but continue updating and installing new software, it can make it harder for you to find the operation to roll back to.
