  • Nautilus opens incredibly slowly

Ever since nautilus was updated (along side the intruduction of the budgie desktop view), it has been taking forever to open. This one happens the first time I have to open it, every time after it opens near instantly as to be expected. Sometimes it can take literal minutes for it to open, which is not acceptable in any kind of way.

Just out of curiosity, how many harddrives & or ssds are you running?

I'm sorry I don't know how to help you, but I think that information might be helpful for those who are technically gifted enough to help.

My gut says you have an old drive that has some caching issues or something. Hopefully somebody will be able to help you out.

1TB Toshiba HDD and a 120GB SSD

SMART says that they are both fine. I'd like to mention tho that the ssd is a dramless one. Potentially if nautilus opens hunderts, or thousands of files when opening that could be the problem. But like I mentioned this never happened before the update.

Have you tried to open nautilus in the terminal? This first time.

pomon I did. Same thing, still takes over a minute to open.

I'd appreciate it if someone could investigate to find out what's going on. Firefox does the same thing, but it started to do it even longer ago.

Logical guess: broken packages, must check & fix; or rebuild database
Gut says: somewhere, somehow you dragged Baloo into your Budgie.
Further--was there any relevant output when you ran it terminal?
    All I got.

You could try running sudo journalctl -f in a Terminal window, then launch Nautilus (either from the menu or in another terminal) and take a look at the journalctl window to see if it prints any weird errors/warnings/etc. during Nautilus' launch.

I'd like to mention that I resolved the Firefox issue by deleting the profile folder and reinstalling it.
