Element (which replaced first Skype for calls with friends, then IRC for Solus Chat and now finally Discord for the Solus Team chat)
WhatsApp for communicating with some other friends

On my PC I basically only need Element these days. Until I saw someone else mention WhatsApp I was under the false impression that Element was my only client now. Well, at least I'm down to only two, and only one app on my PC.

To be fair the only chat I like (without the security / privacy consideration implication, but based on UX) is Discord, but recently they started to promote the Nitro subscription so aggressively. I'm not sure anymore if it's going to be.
Skype / MS Teams were something promising, but Microsoft screwed on this front... unbelievable, right ?

And that's what chat encryption offers too given that the protocol is open and secure. Even if it can be eventually decrypted it's also a matter of feasibility and how much someone wants to invest into decrypting random average joe's chat logs.

I have managed to consolidate down to Element and Discord for my day-to-day comms. Every once in a while I'll fire up Facebook Messenger's web implementation to talk to family back in the States.
