Anyone who's visited this forum more than once probably has noticed my evangelism for Budgie, which is still one of my favorite DEs of all time. But I've been updating my Plasma SSD every week, along with my Budgie, Gnome, and MATE SSDs. (My workstation and server can both hot-swap 2.5" disks, so changing from one to the other for updating purposes is trivial.)
Lately I've noticed loads of improvement in the Plasma edition. I used KDE Plasma for years on openSUSE, and was very pleased with it, so I decided to give the Solus version another try. Replacing MATE on the media machine that streams to our telly, it solved some annoyances I've been living with.
Fighting back against the feeling that I'm cheating on Budgie all the while, I decided to try it on my daily-use laptop, and after a few of days of using it there, I'm still enjoying it, so I decided to install and configure it on my server. Today I'm going to install it on my workstation and configure it for use there. (In each case, I've set aside the original SSD as a sort of insurance in case I should ever want to return to using it.)
Each of these machines is used quite differently, so installing packages and configuring has been a lot of work, but it's been enjoyable and the results are certainly worthwhile. I haven't considered replacing Budgie on my little travel laptop, but I'm pretty sure Plasma will someday be on all the rest of our computers.
Kudos to the folks who are maintaining Plasma for Solus! It's looking really great now.
