Hi, in my experience, keeping the /home
directory and use it in other distro or even the same distro with different DE is a really bad idea, it have specific configuration for the desktop/distro and can mess up your desktop and prevent you to pass the login screen.
You can keep Documents, Videos, Images, Downloads and Music folders, but other than that will likely mess with your installation.
Another possible workaround is to rename /home/_youruser_
and in your installation use a different user name.
Finally, to install Solus and preserve your home directory, first you have to use gparted, make a boot partition with fat32 and at least 512MB, only if your system use EFI. then in the solus installer asign /
partition , swap
and your /home
partition. Install and you are ready to go.
Then you can move the files you want.
fell free to correct me if I'm wrong 👀
