After spending 8 years in my comfort zone with gnome-terminal, I have spent the last few months with Alacritty and am really happy.

It's cleaner, lighter, crisper and I'm comfortable with it. It has a config fie (a .toml) that's pretty easy. I just keep it stripped down.

Anyone else leave their comfort zone emulator for a new one lately?

Not lately. I use Terminology everywhere, but I don 't think it was available when this thread died and was buried.

so you've been happy with that at least 4 years. I do remember you dabbling with a couple others during all the distro threads.

Buried, maybe, but never forgotten 🙂. The staying power of a terminal emulator, or the reason for abandoning one, has always been interesting. This is the window to the nerve center of any distro and basically synonymous with Linux for sure.

I've been using ghostty pretty much since the 1.0 release. That, plus bash with starship prompt and Noto Nerd Fonts. The keybind system in ghostty works amazingly well with my favorite text editor, micro. It makes for a very comfy terminal experience.

Side note, holy cow did this thread ever get necro'd. I would recommend making a new thread next time. Solus, and in fact the whole world, has changed significantly since this thread was last updated.

that's the point I was making a couple posts up.

either way they'll close it now.
ps--did try ghostty for a week. had a harder time maneuvering compared to Alacritty. Perhaps one config file and emulator is enough.

I started to use ghostty after gnome-terminal dropped background-opacity and I love it!
It's amazing, with starship on top of it 😋
