Cyberpunk 2077

Hey all!

Wanted to check and see if anyone had been successful on the Solus side to get Cyberpunk 2077 working. I have heard that Steam's Proton 5.13-4/experimental does the trick, but I purchased the GoG version of the game.

I'd be happy to hear of anyone who got it working! Especially so if they were using the GoG version. I'm not too familiar with how to set up Proton outside of Steam (creating new wine-prefixes, assigning them to the Proton instance, connecting all the bits and bobs).

My understanding of the current state of the game is that it requires an AMD GPU running drivers newer than those that are currently packaged in Solus due to needing a recent Vulkan extension developed by Valve.

If you have an AMD GPU and want to run the game you most likely need to build Mesa from source to get the game working acceptably well.

I'm not sure about the specifics of getting it running through GOG so I can't help there.

Thanks for that. I have an Nvidia card. I’ve seen some people (Martin Wimpress) who have Nvidia cards get along just fine while running Cyberpunk 2077 under Proton in Steam out of the box. Of course he was using Ubuntu, but the info you provided about the AMD drivers and our repo is very helpful. Thank you!

It's possible to add a non steam game to steam and have it use proton, never tried it but I've heard it works. Quick google showed this thread

I think you need check gamehub — that's launcher for steam and gog with big number tweaks (like as ScummVM, Wine, Proton). Available on Solus repository. More info in https://tkashkin.tk/projects/gamehub/

Thanks everyone for chipping in here. I've gotten it to launch through Lutris while using Proton Experimental. After loading Experimental in Steam I was able to import it into Lutris as a runner. Then I just pointed the Lutris game at my .wine installation path (to the exe) and made sure my winecfg was set to Windows 10.

The game launches, but about 10 minutes into a prologue I saw it crash on me. I did see that there were no audio glitches like there was with Proton 5.13-4, thanks to the Experimental Proton. That said, it's still not too playable for me with the crash. I was impressed that it worked fine with my Nvidia GPU GTX Titan X. Playing on the lowest setting felt the smoothest, but the game crashed for me on medium quality.

This may be necro-ing an old post, but just an update that Cyberpunk 2077 works splendidly under Solus thanks to the latest updates in Wine. No need for proton. You can use proton, though, if you like, by loading it through Steam. I've set them both up side by side and they work great. I prefer the running in proton, but I haven't seen a big advantage (proton takes all the upstream Wine stuff anyway).

Makes sense although I will explain something further so people do not get confused and think proton is useless. proton is a valve fork of wine that they pay codewevers to developer. That work often gets upstreamed into wine. Proton will also rebase their work on new wine releases.

So its a truly symbiotic relationship. Proton can benefit from wine's work while being completely independent, allowing them to make changes that benefit gamers without worrying too much about about what wine thinks and allowing them to push releases on their own schedule. If wine, like the change they can benefit also which in turn actually makes proton developers work easier as that is less work rebasing every wine release.
