brent algent read the announcement, and the features look great. What does that mean for Solus though? Re-building the 100 or more packages in repo that rely on GTK?
algent brent Hopefully we will see this: https://github.com/solus-project/budgie-desktop#move-to-gtk4
Saijin_Naib I didn't see it highlighted in the release notes, but does GTK4 actually include functionality that supplants what libhandy offered? My vain hope is that some libhandy'd projects will drop it with GTK4 and be able to return to Solus fully current.
DataDrake Saijin_Naib GTK4 provides the technology to make libhandy obsolete, but it's not a drop in replacement. Someone still needs to make it all work. That said, GTK4 isn't a drop-in replacement for GTK3 either, so it's as good a time as any to use the built-in stuff instead.
DataDrake I think for me the most immediately exciting part of this release was actually: It does mean, however, that GTK 2 has reached the end of its life. We will do one final 2.x release in the coming days, and we encourage everybody to port their GTK 2 applications to GTK 3 or 4.
DataDrake George GTK was originally GIMP's project (GIMP Toolkit). I suspect a lot of GTK2 is still heavily based on their original code.
