I imagine @Girtablulu would like some logs (like dmesg, any logs Plasma might provide, etc.) to help look into and addressing this issue.

Will try to add as much information as possible. I'm fairly sure that it's something user based (probably some plasmoid), but in the meantime I'm a bit in the dark.

Yep, faulty third party plasmoid that doesn't play well with Plasma 5.20.
Back in business, this is solved.

The same thing has happened to me. I can't get the widget picker to appear and right-click on my mouse doesn't work when I click on the desktop. Which plasmoid was causing your problem?

I don't know exactly, I installed a bunch of third party plasmoids and one of them was the culprit.
I solved by renaming the directory .local/share/plasma/plasmoids (which holds the downloaded third party items) to plasmoids-bck and then rebooted.
I will try to re-enable them one by one to get the actual offender.

Thanks, that got me going. I only had four plasmoids in the folder, and I think org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar was the only one that I actually had running. This is a VM, so I'm going to restore last night's backup, disable the event calendar widget, and then update Solus on the VM again to see if that prevents the problem.

And we have a winner. This version of the thermal monitor plasmoid is deadly, apparently. Probably even the event calendar, since I got that too.

yea plasma 5.20 has some big changes and it needs QT 5.15 has dropped and moved stuff around as well, if the plasmaoid maintainer do not keep up you going to have issues. just an headsup plasma 5.21 is going to have some massive changes as well

Yes, the event calendar widget will also cause problems. Solus updated fine when I removed it before updating. I hope they get it fixed, because it is a pretty useful widget. It looks like this problem has appeared on other distros that have already updated to Plasma 5.20.

I uninstalled the event calendar widget, and then re-installed it. It now works. I'm guessing that downloaded widgets don't get updated automatically. Now I know to check for updates to the few widgets I've downloaded before installing a Plasma desktop version update.

Just had the same issue. Killing the plasmoids directory solved it.
