Hi there,

my printer died yesterday and I'm searching for a new Multifunction Inkjet Printer.
My question: which brand is offering good drivers and running fine in Solus?

Any devices you can recommend?

I have an Epson XP-7100 since a few month and satisfied with it.
Printing works good and scanning does the basics. For high quality/special scans I must use Windows though since the Epson Linux driver has less features, but this was the same for my previous Canon.

THX for your reply. I looked around today and my 2 favourite printers are the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 and the Epson XP-7100. But my tendency is towards the Epson. Printing quality seems to be better and I'm not that heavy printing user. Some month there are only 10 or less prints.

palto42 For high quality/special scans I must use Windows though since the Epson Linux driver has less features, but this was the same for my previous Canon.

So there was a Linux plug-in and driver for the scanner that worked right OOB? That's the only thing I could think to warn thosol about since there was not for my particular epson scanner.
edit: palto42 so epson repo apps like Iscan and Utsushi did not help with res quality? (I can vouch one was inconsequential for me).

brent The scanner driver for Epson is called utsushi and in the Solus repository. It provides the basics,
only thing missing is the network scanning driver which I manually addes as described in the post Epson Scanner via Network HowTo

This is how the Linux dirver looks like (all features enabled)

The options for brightness, contrast and threshold are quite unusable under Linux.

The Windows driver has more features and is a bit easier to use, see Epson online manual

palto42 thank you. that is what my utsushsi looks like, too. My epson required an additional proprietary plugin that was hard to install. That's the only potential pitfall I had for the OP.
Back to Utsushi: I'm OK with the res, but dang, I wish I had the ability to size these scans. That is the setting I miss the most among missing functions. Thanks for the bottom link-

I just got a multifunction HP. The printer part just worked. For scanning, similar to brent, it required installing an additional proprietary plugin in order to be recognized as a scanner. The plugin was a bit fiddly to install (and a bugfix went in to fix a bug in the install process). After that, the printer and scanner work great, I have access to full functionality. I just mention this as something to be aware of, and something that the community can help you with if need be. Good luck.

Thanks for your answers. I've found an other interesting device:
            Canon Maxify MB5150
Anyone using the Canon on Solus and have experience with the printer?
