Media Sharing Options?

Coming from Ubuntu, and recognizing that Solus does not support integrated option for Media Sharing like Ubuntu does now, allowing for media (Videos/Photos/Music) to be shared on local network to outside devices like a smart TV. Any recommendations on any 3rd party apps, besides PLEX?

Facemelter222 Have you considered having it as a network Samba share? Personally I do this on my local home server running Fedora, but @ermo wrote documentation for doing it under Solus on our Help Center: https://getsol.us/articles/software/samba/en/

It's probably just what Ubuntu is doing via nautilus-share (also documented in the article).

Facemelter222 I use minidlna.
I'm new to solus, but I used it before in KDE Neon and now in Solus.

It is relatively easy to set up.

I was gonna make my own thread but maybe I'll just piggyback onto this one - does anyone have any experience sharing large media libraries over a local network? I currently have my music directory shared via samba, but it takes (no joke) a full 10 minutes to open from another computer on the network. is there any way of speeding this up, or a better alternative?

Did you enable previews / thumbnails for remote files? (You would know if you did). From memory Plasma and Budgie / Gnome have this disabled by default but if you enabled it, it will take longer to load.

a quick and simple way is using the python http server.

Nope, not sure how I would do that. both computers are running Solus Budgie and I haven't done anything besides share the folders as far as I can remember.

I'm using DLNA servers since years now to provide videos, pictures and music in our 'home network'. Consume with any DLNA aware device like smartphone, linux or any othet OS, smart tv and so on.
I've installed minidlna on my NAS and an a ubuntu driven NUC. Runs perfectly.
