Installing Zoom

I tried replying to a the questions about installing Zoom, but it will not let me; it says the discussion is too old. So, here is my question: I installed Flatpak, then added the Flathub repository, then restarted the computer, just as the directions on Flatpak said. Then I downloaded Zoom, and I get something called us.zoom.Zoom.flatpakref. So, what do I do with THAT? There are no instructions on what to do with it. I am wondering how everyone else using Flatpak managed to get Zoom working. Please help.

Check if it did add a shortcut to Zoom in your start menu and launch it from there.

If you want to launch via terminal type flatpak run us.zoom.Zoom

The easiest steps are to follow the instructions here: https://flatpak.org/setup/Solus/

Then the steps here (scroll down to the command line instructions at the bottom): https://flathub.org/apps/details/us.zoom.Zoom

flatpak install flathub us.zoom.Zoom

In my experience it is automatically added to your menu, but it’s been awhile. I may have had to restart Budgie desktop or logout and back in.

Jep It seems like you just downloaded the flatpak package, without properly installing it. @SuperJC710e detailed the proper way to do it. That's what I did myself a few months back, and I can confirm Zoom appears in the menu after that, without you needing to hunt down how to launch it from the terminal.

Thank you for replying, but it did not work. There is no shortcut for Zoom in the start menu. So, in terminal, I did a cd to the directory where us.zoom.Zoom.flatpakref is, and I get this message: error: app/us.zoom.Zoom/x86_64/master not installed

From a terminal, in the folder whereus.zoom.Zoom.flatpakref resides, try:

sudo Flatpak install us.zoom.Zoom.flatpakref

After it's finished you should find Zoom in your Menu

This is how I installed it, and can also verify zoom shows up in the application menu.
OP might need a reboot, too.
Sounds like it wasn't a clean install from the error info.

Yes, that worked. Except, you have to type flatpak instead of Flatpak. So the command to type in the terminal is: sudo flatpak install us.zoom.Zoom.flatpakref. Then, once I gave permission by typing the password, it installed it and also downloaded and installed six updates. So now the Zoom icon appears in the applications menu, and I am able to run it. Thank you to everyone who replied!

Jep You are right or course, flatpak should not have been capitalized. Glad you got it going.

I've been using it for several months now and found it normally to be very reliable. It gets fairly frequent updates; once or twice had a few glitches after an update, but they don't delay in getting a fix out.
