Hey guys, what's up?
Congratulations for the new forum! I was expecting for it, since a heard about it on the blog 😀
So, I like Solus, how it's pragmatic, seeks technical efficiency even being made to beginners and have this "evolve" nice spirit, it's one of the distributions i always keep on my radar. So, beyond that, there is this doubt i carry with me: how far Solus can go to protect users from the own ignorance? Being more specific, I'm a gamer, and as a gamer, in this moment of the Linux world, i kinda need the new packages that supports these new technologies that have appeared, and i could see two strange situations on Solus: a) NVIDIA drivers; b) Wine versions.
a) I remembered that on Linux games forums everybody could talk that Solus was one of the best gaming options out there, until one day, i realized that people from Fedora, Ubuntu and Arch Linux were Playing Windows AAA games in Lutris with this thing called dxvk with high perfomance and i just discovered that Solus just didn't support it correctly with NVIDIA, which brings me to the core of my doubt: i found it so strange that i did a research and discovered that Ikey was blocking it, because he had fear that the beginners would install it, thinking it was the best option. A great problem for gamers, since that drivers were very important to the use of Lutris, and the play of some games like Rise of Tomb Raider. This "problem" was solved a few days after the announcement of Steam Play (proton)... i have never new what really was happening there, and i thought some possibilities with me: it was "evolve" moment with the overcoming a paradigm, or a pragmatic moment, meaning that in this case that Solus have just realized how important these drivers were, and they should be released anyway as an exception?
b) This bring me to this second moment with Wine doubts: i have discovered that Solus don't have the winehq-devel, or winehq-staging. Here i don't know if it is true, but i saw a guy on Reddit saying this was also Ikey decision, since he didn't like the idea of a beginner looking two different versions of Wine in the repo and not beeing able to decide what to use.
So, two situations were in the beginning the user was being extremely protected of himself, in the "a" situation happened a relaxation, and in the "b" situation, the strong position appears to still go on. How this works on Solus?
Ty for the attention!
