brent testdisk suggested i change the tracks from 248 to 255 nothig happened. couldn't find anything to recover. listed 2 duplicate partiions with asterisks. couldn't fix either. I got it----it will write to the img.001, I'm past your image in previous post. just stuck in holding here...while I investigate options
brent Walnut It's letting me recover one folder at a time now. Which is something. I have time and beer so that's OK right now. Every attempt at recovering ALL the data in one fell swoop has failed in GUI despite all being checked in the left pane and several variations....ehh....it even tells it's recovering damage and corrupt stuff but it opens and looks ok....i'n a world where nothing makes sense but it looks like some of my stuff is tricking back..... Hey it's free. No complaints yet I guess🙂
Walnut Looks great, glad you've been able to puzzle your way through. brent It's letting me recover one folder at a time now Off memory licensed version required for bulk file recovery. I applaud your perseverance .
brent Walnut I applaud your perseverance . .....R-Studios wanted $80USD.... ....Walnut furnished free solution....for that I applaud you. I'm bad, bad, bad, I'm nationwide. We are another hour from SOLVED but I'll let ya know, mods.😉
brent Walnut half of these files are 'root' padlocked. i need to find a CP or MV command tomorrow to strip recursive permissions before I stick all my salvage back on the USB....hundreds of files that root thinks it owns....100s of files that SOlus thinks I own....I'm too tired and burned out to think this one thru.... have to doublecheck integrities tomorrow. Hey, it's a start......
brent thank you Axios Walnut @Harvey for all your help. MODS: SOLVED (as in a I used a tool a form member recommended and succeeded)
Axios Years ago and for the life of me I could not remember the program it was a disk partion program it was like 2 clicks and it took a few and viola everything would have been back but just couldn't remember because I did it.(old age) amazing what computers hide on a disk they dont want tell you the whole story they want sell software!! oh well I will have to screw up a usb drive some time and mess around. I keep forgetting the linux crowd is more on the free side.. I do things different I have custom made pe cds/usb with programs on them that I use because I can use them on any computer, instead of finding certain programs for certain computers in instances like this they basically a Computer repair/recovery disks use them alot.
mattdamon Axios I agree with your opinion about using antivirus to protect data. But which one is better to use? I've read a lot of materials such as Total AV antivirus review at https://antivirus-review.com/totalav-review and others but it is hard for me to detect which one will do its work perfectly. Free or paid version? and so on. And I wonder if there are any other ways to protect your PC and data without using antivirus software?
WetGeek mattdamon And I wonder if there are any other ways to protect your PC and data The FIRST layer of defence should be a good backup and restore functionality. If you don't have that yet, take a good look at Restic, in the repository.
