dostana Solus! Is there flexibility to upgrade compiled kernel as compared to debian platform? Help required, i don't mind crashing my test system.
davidjharder dostana No, Solus gives you the option of a current kernel or an older lts kernel. By default, Solus picks the current kernel for you. Most people have no reason to use the lts kernel. If for some reason you want to switch kernels you should read this: https://getsol.us/articles/troubleshooting/boot-management/en/
dostana using kernel 5.6.19-158.current, i wan to compile kernel 5.8 and upgrade. Need help to upgrade to 5.8 on my solus. Secondly, i have this issue.... wifi fixed to speed = 1Mb/s, it is nonsense.
kaktuspalme dostana The 5.6.19-158 is the most recent kernel for Solus at the moment. You would have to build it yourself if you really want to upgrade. But my advice would be to just wait until we get an approved one by the devs. Unfortunately I can't help you regarding your Wifi problem. Are you sure you only get 1 Mb/s and it's not just a wrong value displayed there?
dostana really don't know but torrent download show 4 to 5 MBps download and sometimes 9 mbps. What's happening out of my knowledge.
beefymiracle I know it’s frustrating Solus uses really old kernels and Mesa versions. As a Navi user it makes solus a no go since kernel 5.8 has fixed stability in lots of games. It would be nice if solus went the Ubuntu route and offered a special repo with Mesa and custom kernel options like xanmod. Manjaro is pretty solid these days if you wanna try that.
WhiteWolf beefymiracle yeah as a Navi user I agree, but as I see issue is with NVMe drives: https://solus.pkgs.org/rolling/solus-unstable-x86_64/linux-current-5.6.19-158-1-x86_64.eopkg.html can anyone give update when we will see kernel 5.7/5.8?
WhiteWolf kyrios maybe not an update with ETA but some info regarding upgrading kernel to newer, like are issues with NVMe drives fixed in newer 5.7/5.8, is anyone looking into it or is currently testing new RC etc. any info would be good.
JoshStrobl WhiteWolf It has been stated multiple times in other threads that the issues that various newer kernels fixed with regards to NVMe are not the issues which are affecting the Samsung controllers that @DataDrake has, @Girtablulu has, and of an EVO Plus m.2 drive that is in the mail for me at the moment. Those issues still persist and Bryan has been actively working, whenever he has the free time to do so, to investigate these issues and both resolve it for us as well as provide any information or patches upstream.
