installing openrazer?

I've been trying to install openrazer but the daemon always fails to detect any devices. I've tried installing it from the package manager and compiling from source, but compiling from source doesn't seem to install it properly.

You probably installed openrazer. That package contains the drivers for the linux-lts kernel, not the linux-current kernel. You'll need to install openrazer-current to get those. From there, you should reboot to give the kernel a chance to load the newly installed modules.

Is there a way to force the Razer GUI apps to use the openrazer-current and not force an install of standard openrazer?

Not at the moment. All of that dates back to when linux-lts was the default kernel, so it made a little more sense then.

So there isn't a way to get the apps working then? Would installing from the source be a workaround that forces the newer openrazer to be used?

LuxLucian What? I have no idea what you are talking about. Openrazer works fine on both the linux-lts and the linux-current kernels. I know it does because I use it every day. What I'm trying to tell you is that you need to install openrazer-current for it to work on linux-current (default kernel) or openrazer for it to work on linux-lts (LTS kernel). The dependency for things like polychromatic and razergenie on the openrazer package dates back to years ago when linux-lts was the default kernel. It just hasn't been changed to openrazer-current.

DataDrake Alright then. My main issue is that the drivers dont seem to work. I have both the openrazer-current and openrazer packages installed, and after asking around the openrazer place they told me to see if asking here would net any answers. Sorry for the confusion, but I have no idea what to do to get the drivers working.

The drivers will work after the first reboot so long as they are up to date and match the installed kernel. That's also with the assumption that your hardware is actually supported by openrazer. The openrazer-daemon used for configuring things is a per-user service that is managed by razergenie or polychromatic. I personally use polychromatic.

Installing from the eopkg and restarting still has the same error. I did check again to see if my devices are supported and it seems like they are. Idk what to do, but I still have windows installed so I'm not locked out of the software. Thanks for the help!

LuxLucian Can you elaborate on what error you are actually seeing with razergenie and polychromatic?
