Hi, I've recently built a desktop that features the ASUS TUF B550M-Plus motherboard (not the Wifi version). When trying to install Solus, it couldn't detect my Ethernet connection (Realtek RTL8125), be it post-install or with the Live USB (4.1 ISO). On Windows, everything works without issues. I have not tried other distributions as I'm really only interested in Solus... Is this a ISO problem, due to the hardware being too recent? Must I wait for a 4.2 ISO refresh?
EDIT: I've found some drivers for it here https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software however the install script requires make which Solus doesn't have by default and, therefore, I can't install them...

judd That is the driver I downloaded which requires make to run...

Have you tested if it works with r8169? since it is from the same family, as the previous link says.
RTL8169 Gigabit Ethernet:

  • RTL8169 Gigabit Ethernet
  • RTL8168 Gigabit Ethernet
  • RTL8101 Fast Ethernet
  • RTL8125 2.5GBit Ethernet

The thing is it also appears to rely on a Makefile :/ Or am I missing something? I thought the kernel in the 4.1 ISO would already support this LAN card

cyrilico
Seems that way, this is one of the reasons I always make sure to get an Intel NIC, much more reliable with better support. (As people have questioned me on this before, no that does not mean you need an Intel CPU).

For example: People have been waiting for RTL8821CE support in the kernel since at least 2018.

Harvey Yeah. "Luckily", it appears RTL8125B support is already planned for kernel 5.9: https://askubuntu.com/a/1260626. Of course that is still likely a long way from any sort of OOTB experience, at least in Solus, but better than nothing, I suppose 😅 I'll eventually try to get a USB Wifi dongle and install the driver manually to see if I can work around it...

Final question. I'm looking at adapters so I can get some sort of Internet while my board's LAN chipset is not supported. I'm looking at both TP-LINK USB3.0 UE300 (chipset RTL8153) and TP-LINK USB2.0 UE200 (chipset RTL8152b). Will either be supported OOTB? More specifically the latter, since I don't have gigabit internet speeds, so the extra money on the UE300 would be useless unless it's the only chipset supported

For anyone coming across similar problems in the future, TP-LINK UE200 did work OOTB on the Solus 4.1 ISO 😃 Problem solved, moderators feel free to lock the thread if appropriate.
