Maybe someone is interested in buying a ThinkPad with Renoir. I just received mine today and here is a short summary, what doesn't work under Solus with all the updates from 24.07.2020:

  • Microphone
  • Screen brightness control works only between 80% and 100%, below 80% the brightness doesn't change
  • Solus 4.1 Plasma Live Iso can't boot to GUI therefore I can't install Solus directly on this machine

Everything else seems to work flawlessly. Even the Lenovo USB C dockingstation is working wonderfully including an external 27" screen and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz. Freesync is not supported, I don't know if this is supported via docking station anyway. But as this is my work device, I don't need it anyway.

But again before someone just orders it: The Solus Live Iso doesn't work at the moment. If you want to install Solus on it you have to install it on another device and then swap the M.2

Yes, I recently bought an Ideapad 15 with AMD Renoir. Great notebook, but failed to install Solus at all from USB stick.

Does your machine have any issues with suspend/resume? This has been a common issue I've seen with Renoir/Linux.
My ideapad won't go into deep sleep(s3) only standby(s0), which eats a lot more battery.

@bsniche Didn't test that that much. But systemctl suspend works without any problem and it does resume without any problem.
I thought s3 is normal standby (suspend to ram) and s0 is just powered on state?

In the UEFI Settings of the notebook there's a sleep state Option, where you can switch between Windows 10 and Linux. I set it to Linux.

Edit: I have got the live 4.1 Plasma Live Iso to work. I'll post a guide probably tomorrow. In short, i needed to configure fbdev driver to use a specific pci bus. sddm didn't want to launch, but I could run a plasma session using startx and then install it. Maybe it's easier on budgie and lightdm, will test that later too.

kaktuspalme i had my terminology mixed up, it will only go suspend to idle. the uefi settings on the ideapads dont have the sleep state option to switch to linux which is the problem. there is a way to manually update the acpi table to introduce the option.

also, interested in seeing that guide.
