Load VirtualBox Guest Additions into Guest

I've used VirtualBox extensively for many years, at work and at home. But that was on Windows, not Linux.

Recently I thought it might be interesting to run a MATE VM and a Plasma VM on my Budgie laptop, to make it easy to follow the evolution of those DEs as they are upgraded. Problem is, I can only run the VMs as postcard-sized, as I haven't found a way to load the guest additions into the VMs.

What's different in this regard for Linux?

I believe you can install the eopkg virtualbox-guest package on the VMs. if not, you can figure out your virtualbox version and download the correct guest additions ISO from Oracle and install it manually!

The VMSVGA (default for Linux) didn't support automatic resize. You have to change the resolution as on a physical machine (Menu -> Display). I think this was changed recently so if you do a full update of the VM, it might eventually work.
Of course the guest package corresponding to your kernel must be installed. Check the Docs on the help center for details.

Thanks! You reminded me that I did actually know that at one time, and had forgotten it. It was easy to change the size after that reminder. Got a MATE VM working just fine. Now to start on Plasma.
