Update Issue - Thunderbird, Google Provider

This week's update disabled all of our calendars, which are currently using the Google provider:

EDIT: When I tried to fix this locally, the error message said that the provider is not compatible with this version of Thunderbird.

Good thing I stopped using the calendar a while back, as it was buggy anyway. I am using calcurse, a terminal based one and happy with it. 🙂

Same problem here. Only local calendars work. What's up with that?

Searching for info about Thunderbird 78.0 in the version release notes provided a somewhat disappointing result:

"Add-on support: As of version 78.0, Thunderbird only supports MailExtensions. Your favorite add-ons may not have been updated for compatibility."

So, apparently until some future date, there will be no way to connect Google Calendar to Thunderbird in the manner we're used to. The Mozilla add-ons page offers a couple versions that make use of Thunderbird's ability to display a web page in a tab, so you can still view your calendar in this less-than-convenient manner, but I've found no way to attach Thunderbird to my calendar and my wife's calendar that way.

And that still provides no way to display calendar info in the "Today Pane" as before.

good research. The writer of this article (https://betanews.com/2020/07/16/thunderbird-78/) says "Users should also be aware that from version 78 Thunderbird will only support MailExtensions, so check with add-on developers to check they’ve been updated to ensure they’ll continue working." He makes it sound like once google (or program creator) updates their addon you'll have similar calendar functionability that you used to have?
