palto42 As posted some time back (https://discuss.getsol.us/d/4530-laptop-freezes-after-wake-up-from-suspend-with-kernel-5-5-11-152-1-x86-64), I faced the same issue since kernel 5.6.4-152-1-x86_64. My workaround is to use the LTS kernel now which is 4.6.229-160 currently. Using an old Sony Vaio with Intel i5-460M and ATI MobilityRadeon HD5650, the board has an Intel HM55 Express chipset.
Diggis palto42 Thanks! I had seen this post in my search but because of the time between then and now and my problem only seeming to have started recently I wondered if it was the same issue. I guess it is though. so then comes the next question. how do i swap out my kernal for the older (LTS) one? that's a linux task I haven't yet breached.
palto42 Diggis Installing the LTS kernel can be done simply via the Solus Software Center, search for linux-lts. Afterwards you reboot and select the LTS kernel in the boot menu. If all works fine, you can make the LTS lernel default via sudo clr-boot-manager update. See Boot Management article.
palto42 viyoriya I have no issues with fan speed or over heating, regardless of kernel version. My only issue with linux-current is the wake-up from sleep.
Diggis palto42 I can report that this was almost disappointingly easy 😂 I guess I somehow expected changing kernal to be a far more complex process. Thanks for your help! Greatly appreciated.
palto42 With today's update of llinux-current to 5.6.19-158-1-x86_64 the problem was solved for (at least for my laptop) 🙂
Diggis so it seemed that all was going well for a few months. but these past two weeks the problem has re-surfacedwith increasing frequency. it's really quite a pain now that i'm using my laptop for distance studies. i can of course switch back to LTS Kernal but i would like to know if anyone has a solution allowing me to use current kernal?
palto42 Diggis Thanks for the update. Luckily I have not faced any issues since, fingers crossed. Have you already tried if LTS kernel solves the issues? Maybe it's something different this time.
abnazhor At the moment, kernel version 5.6.19-158.current faces this problem quite often. I hope this gets fixed in future releases.
putzerstammer I've had Linux for a few years, I can say it's not always the kernel or the distribution or a new update, sometimes it's my own hardware too, I run solus on an Asus notebook, I always do my updates and have no problems, my kernel is 5.6.19
Diggis Well, to add to my confusion it hasn't happened a single time this week (since my last post i have not changed any system settings or updated or switched kernel). If it starts happening again I will see if LTS makes a difference but it seems incredibly random.
