I've been a Budgie fan since I first tried Solus. When I created a Plasma SSD for my workstation, I was disappointed. Too many things didn't seem to work right. After reading much praise for Solus Plasma recently, I figured it must have been improved by a lot. I was right.
I started by replacing the Budgie SSD in my laptop with a new empty one, and installed Plasma, updated it, and configured the most important applications (Thunderbird, Vivaldi, Firefox, etc.). I ran systemd-analyze
and was amazed that it loaded virtually as fast as Budgie. I was used to KDE/Plasma being sluggish on other distros.
Congrats to the Plasma team for a very good job!
Unless I run into some unsolvable issues as I continue to configure this DE, I may adopt it for most of our computers here. Installation of the OS is trivial, but configuring all the applications I use takes a long time, so I'll probable convert one machine at a time, and not all at once.
