assuming solus printer settings do recognize printer, but can't print, then you are right, it's a driver.

you could also extract .deb package and see if there is a driver you can make solus print settings see. Long shot, probably.
what ideas does print settings have? sometimes a 'fake-out' install with a similar model's printer's drivers works. Lots of fakeout success stories here, but never worked me and Brothers or epson scanner.
