I think lightdm is having trouble loading for me

How do I fix this? https://imgur.com/gallery/DmV7IiL I try and restart the service and I just get a black screen. I was able to get to the terminal with ctrl alt f2 which is how I checked, I this a problem with my gpu(2070 super) I should probably also say that in order to keep it from crashing on boot I added the nomodeset, if I didn't add that to the end of the boot edit thing it would just crash, I tried reinstalling lightdm, reflashing with different tools, and even trying to install a different display manager

I’ve come to the conclusion it’s an issue with the drivers on the live usb, I have no clue what to do from here

Try using nomodeset to boot the ISO. IS this the latest ISO (4.1)?

Justin yes it is, also I did use that to boot, if I didn’t it just crashes:

Quant5 Such is the problem with a lot of newer NVIDIA cards. NVIDIA's support for Linux is really crap. AMD isn't perfect but at least they support the open source driver that works with most AMD cards.

Quant5 I'm not sure honestly. I've not had trouble as my card is older (1060GTX) and works on nouveau to do the install.

I thought nomodeset would work. The other option and it's a bit involved is to install the driver from TTY and then restart lightdm.

login using username (no password)
sudo eopkg install nvidia-glx-driver-current
sudo systemctl restart lightdm

sudo systemctl restart lightdm

im now on a black screen with a white blinking cursor in the top left

Justin ok, I borrowed someone's quadro 4000 and that worked, no i'm just stuck on the examining local storage devices, I can't tell if something's wrong or if it normally takes a long time

@Quant5 I have the same issue when I boot the installation image from an USB disk with UEFI Bios support. Try to boot from the USB disk with the "legacy" bios mode instead and add nomodeset to the Kernel parameters.

maveonair I have an idea, do you know if there is anyway to keep the drivers on the usb once installed, because after I reboot normally they clear and you get the same issue, maybe if you can do a full reboot with the drivers already loaded on it’ll work

Quant5 It can get stuck. I've seen if a few times. Try re-starting just the installer application. If that doesn't work try remove any drives that won't be used for the install and then run the installer. It examines all the drives and does an analysis on them for potential resizing.
