idk there might be 2 or possibly 3 different problems here then. Neither of my two IdeaPads are able to boot 100% of the time after the last Friday update. Neither of them had virtualbox-guest-common installed. When they fail, neither of them get to the login stage, so I can't access terminal. They will either randomly boot to login correctly and login correctly, or just show a blank screen forever immediately after the BIOS splash. Both have Intel graphics, however they actually had xorg-video-driver-intel removed and successfully relied on KMS to prevent random freezing since several months back <https://dev.getsol.us/T8752> for whatever reason.
The Xorg logs after unsuccessful boots end with either "(EE) Can't find a valid framebuffer device", then "(EE) Device(s) detected, but none match those in the config file... (EE) Fatal server error: (EE) no screens found(EE)".
After the first successful boot and checking this thread, I reinstalled xorg-video-driver-intel from the repo, but there was no change. Both still randomly fail to boot with the same error messages.
I tried to set the LTS kernel upon rebooting, but I can no longer see the option via tapping spacebar during boot, maybe for some related reason.
Anyway, I'll try a few things like a rollback to rule out any weird error on my end. This post is just an FYI in case other Lenovo or Intel hardware users are experiencing the same thing. Let me know if there's any more info you want.
