I have a Brother DS-620 and a ScanSnap S1100i scanner. Neither are detected in simple-scan. I have tried installing the brother drivers manually from the brother website via RPM without success. The ScanSnap is suppose to be supported by sane, but again doesn't work. Is is possible to use either of these scanners with Solus Budgie? If so, how do I install them?
Install and Use a Scanner
ribbonfinch You can ask for the driver here if it isn't in repository.

I don't know how to do that. Does that mean there is no way to use these scanners unless it gets put into the repository? Also, should a scanner work if it's supported by Sane or does it also need to be added by the Solus team? The scanners I have are very common and basic scanners.
also at that website you can see if there are existing packages for your brother and fujitsu. do search there.
simple-scan is likely looking for a driver or a plugin/interpreter you don't have installed. invesitgate the tar.gz or rpm packages.
Or see what sane-backends stuff in our own repo might be compatible with these scanners.
use the resource @algent gave you--it's valuable for info.
in the scanner/printer linux world, nothing is instant. all takes a little work

I read that wrong like everyone else the first time Rpm packages dont work in solus you need go to the software center and do search for brscan4 and install it and then search again for sane and install it if not already installed. And it should work. This is just for the brother scanner not the other one.

By chance have you installed "brscan4" from SC ? It is a collection of brother drivers. Other wise request the driver as @algent posted.

craigtoyoracer that's incorrect, brscan4 is for scanners which are needing this driver it's not a print driver
my bad, Thanks for the correction Girtablulu
