Problem with Winetricks

Hi there

I'm having a problem with Winetricks. I installed everything from the Software Center but when I try to run Winetricks I get the following windows:

and also this:

I'm sure I'm just missing something, but I don't know what it is...

AlienTux I am only getting the first dialog window, which is probably normal if you ask me.
Make sure you have already installed this apps :
wine
wine-dbginfo
wine-devel
winetricks
If yes, than I suggest to delete and reinstall , I would make sure to delete the .wine from Home directory if it still exist after deleting from terminal and then reinstall again
Edit: Nvm I launched it again after my wine did an update and I am getting the same error. XD

AlienTux Ok what seems to be a workaround that I managed to pull out is this; note that this only works for the first time I do it and you need to revert and do it again for each time you want to use it .
Open a terminal and do WINEARCH=win64 winecfg - Changing between "Windows version" (I often change to win 7 or win xp) click apply/ok .
In the same terminal write winetricks and it should run now.
So you need to do this each time you want to run winetricks its kinda one time deal.
Hope that the devs take a better look at this because I am sure there is a better fix to this which I am not capable to do right now.

I noticed there was an update on winetricks from the last friday might be the reason why it is broken now.

winetricks is upgraded from 2019.12.24-19-1-x86_64 to 2020.04.12-20-1-x86_64.

also

wine is upgraded from 5.5-85-1-x86_64 to 5.6-86-1-x86_64.

I've used winetricks to install a program and it didn't give me any erros like it does now, but it was before the newest patches. (I am looking for a possible fix for this)

AlienTux No, I haven't. I thought maybe new wine or winetricks upgrade will fix it, since they release them very often nowadays.

laky sounds reasonable. I'll wait for the upgrade to check if it works. In the meantime I managed to run VMware Player and it's solving most of my issues 🙂

AlienTux New wine-5.7 is up ! Trying out winetricks right now and everything seems to be in order. Much thanks to Solus team for their fast notice! 🙂

The First message is more a warning, not a bug don't worry, it's just say that the prefix you use is in 64 bits (not 32).
You should really search the internet for a basic explanation on how work wine and what is winetricks I think it'll help you a lot (I tried to make a clear explanation, but the truth is that I couldn't..).
I can't help you with the second error, maybe you could try to run winetricks in another prefix.

Flo The problem is real, winetricks doesnt work anymore since a week aproximately after an upgrade, if you dont have the .wine folder for example and use winetricks it only creates 3 folders inside the .wine directory and gives an error wine cmd.exe /c echo '%AppData%' returned unexpanded string 'C:\Program Files' ... this can be caused by a corrupt wineprefix (wineboot -u may help), by an old wine, or by not owning /home/linuxkernel/.wine

[deleted] I never said you haven't got issue, just that the first message says that you use a 64bit prefix (when creating a prefix, you can input winearch=32 to do a 32 bit prefix).
I always create a custom prefix for each application (each one needing some custom configuration), so I never had your issue :s

Execute winetricks in a terminal and you will see it by yourself

It is an old issue , as you can see it is dating back to 2015. Nothing on this github thread helped me to solve it , but I've made an report on the Dev Tracker.

A workaround could be by creating a prefix, and running your application inside it. Did you tried it ?
