If you simply add techniques from different styles, yes, that's a concrete risk.
But if you take your time to understand not only the "how", but the "why" of a technique, its underlying principles....than adapting it to your core style, or using it to understand some shortcomings and defects of your approach to the art becomes easier.
For example, a lot of unharmed techniques from the Flos Duellatorum are surprisingly similar to some jujitsu techniques, but since they were meant to be used in different situations from the japanese traditional ones..... you can use them as an inspiration for approaching the art from a different direction.
