Did by the epson V39 flatbed.
installed every (so far) useless scan program
usb-powered scanner: light won't come on. can't get power. no power button. solus sees it, it's in system menu.
yes changed ports etc.
PROBLEM: no power to scan, but power to communicate with solus, no power light or scanning.
please help me interpret this data, thank you

Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage
