I just found out this software. I test it (AppImage), it seems very effective.

AppImage

Download the AppImage and type the following:

chmod +x marktext-%version%-x86_64.AppImage

./marktext-%version%-x86_64.AppImage

Now you can execute Mark Text.

Installation

You cannot really install an AppImage. It's a file which can run directly after getting executable permission. To integrate it into desktop environment, you can either create desktop entry manually or use AppImageLauncher.

Desktop file creation

See example desktop file.
$ curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/marktext/marktext/develop/resources/linux/marktext.desktop -o $HOME/.local/share/applications/marktext.desktop

# Update the Exec in desktop file to your real marktext command. Specify Path if necessary.
$ vim $HOME/.local/share/applications/marktext.desktop

$ update-desktop-database $HOME/.local/share/applications/

Honest question, what's the benefit of this (which is just an Electron-based app leveraging marked.js for Markdown parsing) over a more native implementation such as Ghostwriter?

In fact, I am not a fan of Electon apps. Overloaded. 🙄

But, well, I recognize that Marktext is elegant and very easy to use for an average Joe. It has very effective realtime preview (WYSIWYG without more ram fingerprint than Ghostscript) with a clean and simple interface. It exports PDF properly. There's Source Code mode, Typewriter mode, Focus mode as Ghostscript.

I am not claiming for a package. I just test it with the AppImage. 😇

It's also available as a Flatpak. I've been using it for a while and like it. Simple and elegant.
