They are all great 😍 , but you can select only one ! 🤔
kyrios So, according to the poll, Plasma has more users than GNOME and MATE and still isn't released. 😃
kyrios I,m a linux user for ten years now, Solus is my day to day distro and I,m so pleased with it.
kyrios I run both Mate and Budgie but have found I tend to use Mate as main desktop as it is slightly less of a drain on resources on my old HP desktop PC . I still say Solus is best Linux OS out there! Snappy, fast and very quick to boot up! I think that if plasma is adopted as an official release it would soon start to catch up with Budgie. I installed testing version of plasma and found it superb until some updates broke it! The latest Kubuntu 19.10 blew me away on how low its ram usage is so maybe Solus Plasma should be adopted in the future as it could be a big winner alongside the Budgie flagship!
kyrios If its Linux then its Plasma.. Budgie is very good though, but nowhere near as customizable and as eye pleasing as Plasma imo!
kyrios They are all great 😍 , but you can select only one !
Per machine, right?
I prefer Budgie, but use MATE for older machines. I dig the execution of MATE desktop in Solus, since it's so simple (when comparing to eg. Ubuntu MATE)
Budgie is great, I wish they just added a global menu applet, then it'd be perfect! lol
kiwi Never actually been fond of a global menu.
kiwi There's vala-panel-appmenu-budgie-desktop in the repos. Is that what you're looking for? 😀
kiwi i wanted too, but dont fit with gnome apps...
Budgie, because he meets my needs exactly, and he's super clean and he doesn't lose feathers. 😁
I am waiting for the Task List applet improvements.
Calling @JoshStrobl because gnome has no vote yet 😉
kyrios I actually find it interesting that GNOME doesn't have votes because it's our second most downloaded ISO.
kyrios I voted Budgie coughs
kyrios Quickly, everybody write bots so Gnome gets some bots.
When I asked Josh why does Solus have Gnome edition and if it isn't too much strain on the devs, he said that it is pretty easy to maintain. I can see why, looking at problems with KDE it might have better user/work hour ratio.
JacekJagosz The reason why KDE is more involved when it comes to maintaining (thanks sunnyflunk and @Girtablulu ❤️ ) is because they have a much faster release cadence than GNOME does, which means more frequent updates and therefore more work to update the experience and test it.
Budgie of course, that is why is i am a Solus user because i want to use Budgie from its source, it is everything i am looking for in a desktop environment.
bluvisnu Same here. I came over from Ubuntu Budgie, and haven't looked back.
Seems a little odd that the KDE edition is as popular on this poll as it is, when the ISO isn't even on the main download page! lol
serebit I ran Solus Plasma for a few months.
It works great!!
Missing it already, so think I shall reinstall it when next I get time.
I Had been a Gnome user for many months, but just recently switched to plasma and really love it. It's a tad buggier than Gnome, and I really do miss those dynamic workspaces. That said, I really have fallen in love with some of the eye candy features of Plasma (wobbly windows!) and it's just easier to muck around with in general.
Solus Plasma everywhere at this moment. It's just so good!
My vote is Gnome, I tried Budgie, but did not like it, as the task bar was at the top of the screen and at the time of testing I could not fin out how to move it to the bottom, so decided on Gnome which I have customised to how I want an OS to be.
lightbodyae55 Some right-click options (eg. when right-clicking a panel) would be welcome to make that easier
