I started off with Ubuntu 10.04 so 2009-ish? But being a total newbie all I could do was install the tweak tool and pimp out my DE with tweak tool (fire burning closing animation blew my mind etc lol). At that time there where still issues with flash, wifi, printer drivers etc so that's what eventually made me go back to windows.
Fast forward to my entry level position at an MSP consulting company, a tier 2 tech was running linux as his secondary computer so I figured I'd give it another shot, plus I had this guy help me out if needed.
From then on I've been distro hopping, until I stuck with Elementary OS which worked for a bit but I felt a little restricted with it so after about a year running it I was back to distro hopping again. Until I found Solus OS. Tried All 3 flavours; Gnome, Mate and finally Budgie
It Impressed me so much I decided to take the plunge and use it as my primary workstation AT WORK and other than a few bugs, outdated packages here and there which eventually got updated It's been a pretty solid Distro.
I'm still running windows on my second PC just because I also use Quickbooks at work for Sales stuff BUT everything I need works in Solus (Printers, Google Keep, Enpass, Chrome, Spotify, Teamviewer, Evolution, Whatsapp, Telegram to name a few)
I don't think I'll be switching to any distro anytime soon. Good job to the Solus team, maintainers and other contributors to the project
EDIT: Total years running linux 7 (Solus 4 months)
