Why "sudo umask" doesn't work?

I wanted to have a look what umask is set for root user but sudo umask doesn't work. I'm curious why is that, not that it's too important. As per type, umask is shell builtin, but compared to CentOS where it works which umask returns which: no umask in (/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/snap/bin). Could that be the reason? Is it expected behavior?

caolan sudo is just an elevation of your current account, sudo su logs you in as root.
