gozo Dell XPS 13 7390, new 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10710U platform After successful entering LUKS password cursor briefly blinks and then freezes. Live demo and install process has completed successfully, LUKS created, all looked good. But after install, won't boot OS.
gozo Justin I have removed that SSD from the laptop. Is this command only for diagnostics or something else? I would hate to remove all screws again in vain
Justin gozo It'll hopefully allow you to get to a prompt and login to troubleshoot what the issue is but if it's too hard then that's that.
Justin gozo It depends on which desktop you installed as we'll need to see the status of the display manager. If plasma systemctl status sddm mate/budgie systemctl status lightdm gnome systemctl status gdm
gozo Justin just to follow up on entering commands after blinking cursor by pressing Ctrl Alt F3. It's not possible. Immediately after pressing Enter the thing is basically frozen.. taking no input. Thanks.
gozo Latest update: after LUKS pwd entry cursor blinks only for short period of time and then freezes. Once frozen ctrl alt f3 does not help. Could it be some incompatibility with gen 10 cpu? because even during live session (prior install) system was showing signs of instability.
gozo How difficult it is for Solus developers to issue another point release? 4.2? In my view move to 5.5.x kernel significantly improved hardware compatibility, while newer versions of Gnome, Plasma and MATE also moved thing up a notable notch. Incoming kernel 5.6 will also improve things nicely, in short few weeks. I just hope we don't stay with 4.1 for the remainder of the year.
DataDrake gozo Probably not kernel 5.6. It's only rc3 so it will be at least another 5 weeks before 5.6.0 is out and we won't ship anything before at least 5.6.1.
gozo DataDrake How is the 4.2 looking, I'd still say it would be wise to include 5.6 kernel due to crazy hardware support added, even if it means release in two or three (5.6.1) weeks from now?
DataDrake gozo We moved back the 4.2 estimate, so it's possible. I'm not committing to anything though. The 5 series has not had very good debut releases.
gozo DataDrake that is great news. Thanks! On the useful note, I've tested latest Manjaro (kernel 5.4) and it installed fine, no problems after LUKS password entry. They are doing something right in that regard.. I love Solus and report this just to point to possible solution.
gozo DataDrake Good morning and I hope you are safe. Kernel 5.6 is out and looking good, so is Gnome 3.36 for couple of weeks already. Two things I would appeal the team to check out in particular are the installer woes (described previously in this thread) and screen flickering, as described here: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Screen-flickering-on-XPS-13-7390-Ubuntu/td-p/7430121/page/3 it also applies to Solus. I am currently testing Manjaro but would really like to go back to Solus once I can install it. (Manjaro also occasionally screen-flickers)
